Remembering Rhythm & Blues: Feeling Sexy With Klymaxx

Feeling Sexy With Klymaxx

Alright, so it's day three of 2007 and I am so feeling myself. This year is all about remembering that life is too damn short. So I'm living the sexy life in '07. Now being sexy ain't about wearing some short, booty crack skirt or having a 'ho' mentality (but if that's what YOU want to do then DO YOU). For me though, being sexy is about having confidence. It's about walking into a room and knowing regardless of what you have on or what people think, YOU KNOW YOU LOOK AND FEEL GOOD! So this year, I Say Yes to FEELING and LOOKING good. Reading and writing is helping me to work on the inside and now I gots to work on the outside. As a matter of fact, I ordered so many clothes over the weekend that I can't wait to have my Meeting In The Ladies Room to try on all kinds of outfits. Shoot I'm not sure if you guys know this about me, but when winter comes through, it's quite necessary for me to pull out the leather. Leather boots, skirts, coats, pants in all kinds of color, rocked together or worn separately, leather is one of my favorite fabrics. It doesn't do too much to keep you warm, but damn don't it look good when you get it on? Now one group that comes to mind when I slide on my leather pants would have to be Klymaxx.

Klymaxx was a female Urban/Dance-pop group formed in Los Angeles, California between 1979 and 1990.

The group consisted of drummer/founder Bernadette Cooper, vocalist Lorena Porter, bassist Joyce Irby, keyboardists Lynn Malsby and Robbin Grider and guitarist Cheryl Cooley. Klymaxx became the first and last (so far) all-female band in this style of music to all play an instrument.

In 1981, they signed to Solar Records. Their debut album, Never Underestimate The Power Of A Woman, was released on Solar Records. Upon beginning work on their second album, they became the first ever act to work with writers/producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The team wrote and produced the song 'Wild Girls' for that second album 'Girls Will Be Girls'. After the second Solar album in 1983, they switched to the Constellation label (via MCA) for Meeting In The Ladies' Room which featured the 1985 hit "I Miss You" which peaked at #3 on both the Adult Contemporary and Billboard Hot 100 charts. The album also featured the hits "The Men All Pause" and "Meeting in the Ladies Room". Two years later, their song "Man Size Love," from their self-titled "Klymaxx" album, was featured on the soundtrack for the movie Running Scared. Klymaxx scored another massive but mostly forgotten hit with the ballad, "I'd Still Say Yes." It peaked at #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #8 on the Adult Contemporary chart in 1987.

The group was down to three members by the end of 1989 when the band was composed of Porter, Cooley, and Grider. In 1990 they returned with The Maxx Is Back, which featured the singles "Good Love" and "Don't Run Away." "Good Love" peaked at #23 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play and #4 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks charts.

They attempted a comeback in 1997 with the album titled "One Day." It was released on the label Valley Vue. The album featured the single "All I Think About Is You." Even though it received positive reviews from fans, it met with zero interest in radio airplay.

Klymaxx reunited on an episode of the VH1 series Bands Reunited in 2003 in order to perform some of their vintage hit singles.

Somebody slap these BWs (Basic Women) because hot damn, did the Men All Pause when these sexy ladies walked into the room! I love the hot energy and the spicy mood that their music gives me, especially with songs like Sexy. I gotta strut my shit on that track. So whether your short like me, tall like Tyra, PHAT like Monique or thin like Nicole Richie, be encouraged to NOT shy away from your greatness, internally and externally, because Divas Need Love Too!
