Save The Last Dance for Donna Summer
"It seemed like a dubious honor at the time, but Donna Summer had the talent and charisma to climb to the top of the Disco heap. Considering that Disco was a style which showcased a producer's sound and faceless studio skill, the fact that Summer became a household name says a great deal about the power of her personality. Her toothy, ponyish beauty did have the sequencer-mad Giorgio Moroder behind it, and together they came up with the 1975 stunner "Love To Love You Baby." The song became more than a major Disco hit -- it helped give birth to the modern electronica movement. Summer's seemingly endless stream of supple hit singles dried up when Disco choked on its own dust in the early 1980s. Though she still possesses a strong voice and looks far better than many other performers on the current Dance Pop and R&B scenes, Summer's various comeback attempts have all fallen flat in the age of Madonna. If you want to see one of the worst documents of the Disco era, seek out Summer's acting debut in Thank God It's Friday." - Nick Dedina (for Rhapsody)Now while I used Nick's commentary above to provide a bit of background on this wonderful singer, I must admit that I LOVED TO LOVE her in Thank God It's Friday! Granted this movie has it's weirdo moments (come on for pete sakes, it was a comedy, right?), yet I still consider it one of my favorite movies! Donna worked hard for her money in this film and when she belted out Last Dance at the end of this film, it made me want to pull out my mom's wood-looking mules and hop on the floor. Speaking of my mom, she believes my love for Donna Summer stems from the fact that she played her songs over and over again while I was in her belly. Well, hush my mouth and pass the hot stuff, um, I mean Similac. I ain't no bad girl! :)

Lisa Fischer's So Intense, It Just Doesn't Make Sense
Growing up in the early 90s was a rough time for me. I was stuck in between being a middle school youngster and a young teen and I remember running behind this girl, let's call her Twinkie (don't ask me why I picked that) and while she was "hugging" up on every guy that would have her, I was stuck entertaining her boyfriend's friends with dumb chit-chat and promises to call, knowing all the while that my dad was not letting ANYONE call the house for me - LOL! Nevertheless, I thought I knew everything back then, and when I was going through my young heartbreaks, what was my song of choice? Why none other than Lisa Fischer's 1992 hit, "How Can I Ease The Pain?" off her first album, So Intense. This song made you feel so bad for yourself, yet when it was all over there was this sense of relief. I know crazy right? I wanted all of Lisa's songs to save me from my chain of broken hearts, not realizing the beauty of my own wildflowers. Let the rain fall down upon her, for she is a sweet and gentle flower growing wild... How Can I Ease The Pain
Lisa can SANG, ya'll!

Have You Had The Love Experience with Raheem Devaughn?
I betcha you didn't know this about me, but I cry almost every time I hear this song. Why? Well, it's quite simple, I'm a sap-sucker for love songs that have a man begging, but Raheem's debut CD, The Love Experience, isn't just about begging for the affection of some girl, it's about feeling real love, be it while holding each other in the dark or standing behind your love one while he/she is washing dishes. Raheem's voice commands the ear to hear the beauty of all things love. He came on the scene with a simple question: Guess who loves you more? Boy, did that line make me take notice, but I can't take all the credit for finding out about this smoldering man. My husband has a knack for finding those hidden treasures before they hit the airwaves and one evening on our way back from hanging in downtown DC, he played this album for me. I couldn't believe the intense beauty each of these songs held as they flowed one into the other. Songs like, Breathe, You, and Ask Yourself, which is up there on my list of songs I need to have if ever stranded on a island. LOL! I swear, I sing my poor little heart out with Raheem as he pours out the very center of him into this jam: Ask yourself a question, have you ever had a session, of lovemaking that won't end? Have you ever been to heaven? Well, Raheem, I must admit I've had a session such as this and damn, don't I wish I had your song playing while I was having it? LOL! ;)Raheem is love

I'm So Alone with Men At Large
Washing dishes a few moments ago, this 1992 classic by Men at Large sprang into my soul and out of my lips the chorus flowed; I’m so alone, I miss you. I've been in this serious melancholy mood as of late and I'm not quite sure why that is, yet this song breathes my feelings in its first verse. Feel free to sing along, if you know the words...We were together just the other day...
Taking life for granted
Passing time away
I was there for you
You were there for me
We would be together
For eternity
I never knew there would be sorrow
But I knew we'd be together, tomorrow
Together forever
We were so wrong
Now I just can't believe
That you're gone
And I'm so alone...
Gosh, those words place so much into my heart right now. I’m missing something or someone, but I can't pin it, but there’s such a feeling of loss overwhelming me. Stress can do that to you sometimes. Shit, I guess a good cry is in order and the sing-song way these guys are conversing at the end will definitely give you one. It's truly amazing how these tears seem fresh, but old and stale. Um, change is inevitable and no, things can't remain the same, but music sure has a way of taking you right back to a place you thought you'd never see or feel again.
